Enugu police nab two suspects in N68m visa fraud case

Two suspected fraudsters have been arrested in Enugu after allegedly conning victims out of N68 million through fake visa processing and overseas relocation promises that never materialised.

ENUGU VISA SCAMMERS NABBED — N68 MILLION GONE

They promised the world. They delivered nothing.

Two suspected fraudsters are now in police custody in Enugu after allegedly running a visa scam that stripped victims of a combined N68 million, per Punch.

The suspects reportedly dangled the dream of lucrative opportunities abroad — visas, travel documents, full relocation packages — convincing desperate applicants to hand over their life savings. None of it materialised. Victims were left stranded, broke and with nothing to show for their money.

Security operatives tracked the suspects down following a wave of complaints from victims who had paid large sums for overseas processing that simply never happened.

Investigators are now working to determine the full scale of the operation, identify additional victims and trace whether more people were involved.

It’s a story that’s become painfully familiar in Nigeria. Travel and visa-related scams continue to prey on people desperate for opportunities abroad, often targeting those who can least afford to lose their savings. Police have repeatedly urged the public to verify travel agents, recruitment firms and migration consultants before making any payments — advice that, clearly, not enough people are heeding.

Investigations are ongoing. Police say they’re working to recover funds where possible and ensure those responsible face prosecution.

For the victims, the financial damage is done. For the suspects, the legal reckoning is just beginning.
