Ogun relocates students over methane gas pollution, Abiodun assures safety

Ogun State has temporarily relocated students of a Ijebu-Ode girls’ school after preliminary findings confirmed methane gas contamination on the premises.

Methane gas, not malice — that’s Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s message after temporarily relocating students from Our Lady of Apostles Girls Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode.

Touring the school in person, Abiodun confirmed preliminary tests had detected methane in the area, prompting the move to protect students, teachers, and nearby residents while experts dig deeper, Daily Post reports.

He’s pulled in the big guns too — the Ministries of Environment and Health, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and geology experts from Olabisi Onabanjo University are all on the case.

As for rumours the school was deliberately targeted? Abiodun shut that down, calling it likely natural. Students stay out until the all-clear is given.
