Closing in: Troops corner terrorists as freedom nears for 46 Oyo abductees

Security forces have surrounded the National Park hideout where 46 abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers are being held, with rescue believed to be imminent as terrorists abandon most demands and focus solely on ransom.

Freedom may be around the corner for 39 schoolchildren and seven teachers abducted from three communities in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State — and the terrorists holding them are running out of options fast.

According to Vanguard, troops have completely encircled a National Park forest hideout where the victims — snatched on May 15, 2026 — are believed to be held. All escape routes? Blocked.

Cornered and desperate, the kidnappers reportedly murdered one abducted teacher in a chilling bid to pressure authorities into backing off. It hasn’t worked.

The group — linked to Ansaru, a Boko Haram splinter faction — initially demanded four things: release of detained commanders Mahmud Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) and Abubakar Abba (alias Mahmud Al-Nigeri), a ransom payment, two Hilux vehicles, and Sharia law implementation.

Now? They’ve reportedly dropped everything except the money.

With security forces tightening their grip, sources say the terrorists are “effectively contained within the forest” — and the clock is ticking.
