U.S. Vice President JD Vance found himself at the centre of an awkward diplomatic moment during Iran peace talks in Switzerland, where several key delegates appeared to give him a chilly reception.
According to The Daily Beast, Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman appeared to bypass Vance during greetings, instead embracing Iranian and Pakistani representatives. Reports also said Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declined to join a joint photo opportunity with the U.S. delegation.
The developments came as Vance promoted diplomacy at the Lake Lucerne Summit. The diplomatic discomfort was amplified by conflicting messages from Washington, with President Donald Trump reportedly adopting a tougher tone on Iran while negotiations continued behind closed doors.
