Philadelphia Eagles defender Bernard believes Nigeria has all the raw talent needed to become a major force in American football if given the right opportunities and development pathways.
Nigeria could become a goldmine for NFL talent if the right structures are put in place, according to Philadelphia Eagles star Bernard, who says the country is overflowing with athletic potential.
Speaking in an interview reported by TSN, Bernard praised the physical gifts and competitive mindset of Nigerian athletes, insisting that many young Nigerians possess the qualities needed to succeed in American football.
The Eagles defender said the challenge is not talent but exposure. According to him, countless gifted athletes remain undiscovered because they lack access to coaching, facilities and pathways into the sport.
Bernard pointed to the growing number of Nigerian-born and Nigerian-descended players making an impact in the NFL as proof that the country can become a significant contributor to the league’s talent pool.
He expressed optimism that increased investment, grassroots programmes and scouting initiatives could unlock even greater opportunities for aspiring players.
The comments come as the NFL continues expanding its international reach, with Africa increasingly viewed as a key frontier for talent development.
