All 80 passengers escaped unhurt after an Arik Air flight diverted to Benin over an engine anomaly now under investigation by safety authorities.
An Arik Air Boeing 737-700 carrying 80 passengers made an emergency diversion to Benin Airport after a reported engine incident while descending into Port Harcourt. The crew heard a loud bang from the left engine and took precautionary measures, landing safely with no injuries recorded.
“As a precautionary measure, the crew made a safe diversion to Benin after hearing a loud bang on the left engine during descent,” the airline said. The NSIB confirmed “significant damage” to the engine and has launched a full investigation, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
