30-year-old man arraigned for killing father with pestle

The Kebbi State Police Command has arraigned 30-year-old Ibrahim Karaye for allegedly killing his 50-year-old father, Bahago Karaye, with a pestle following a violent dispute on their farm in Birnin Yauri.

The Kebbi State Police Command has arraigned a 30-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Karaye, for the alleged murder of his biological father, 50-year-old Bahago Karaye. According to a statement issued on Thursday, April 16, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the fatal incident occurred on March 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Rakka Village, located within the Birnin Yauri district of Yauri Local Government Area. The police report indicates that the father and son were working together on a farm when a disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the struggle, the elder Karaye reportedly threw a stick at his son, which allegedly triggered a violent retaliation. SP Usman disclosed that the suspect, in a fit of rage, picked up a pestle and struck his father on the head. “The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Birnin Yauri Primary Health Care Centre, where he received treatment and was later discharged,” the police spokesperson stated. Despite the initial medical intervention and subsequent release, the victim’s condition deteriorated after he returned home.

The case took a tragic turn 48 hours later, resulting in a homicide investigation. “However, on April 1, at about 3:30 p.m., the father died at his residence as a result of the injuries sustained,” SP Usman said. Following the death, police operatives apprehended Ibrahim Karaye, who has now been formally charged with murder at a magistrate court. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served, while the remains of the deceased have since been buried according to Islamic rites in his home village.
