Two Dead as Yoruba, Hausa Clash in Ibadan

Tragedy struck Ojoo in Ibadan this week. Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal visited the area on Tuesday after a clash between Yoruba and Hausa residents left two people dead, according to Peoples Gazette.

The crisis reportedly began with a dispute between a POS operator and a Hausa resident that turned violent, killing the operator. Outrage the next morning triggered a protest that escalated, claiming a teenager’s life and leading to property being torched.

Lawal insisted every Nigerian has the right to live anywhere in the country and vowed the government would not allow “hoodlums” to turn the incident into a tribal war, promising arrests and prosecution of those involved.
