The Senate has declined to launch a fresh investigation into the N1.3 billion budgetary allocation to the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, opting instead to await the ongoing ICPC probe.
Senate Rejects Fresh Probe Into PFIPC Funds
The Senate has slammed the brakes on a fresh probe into Nigeria’s fake agency scandal. Lawmakers declined to investigate the N1.3bn allocated to the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, according to Punch.
Kano South Senator Kawu Sumaila had raised the alarm, noting the “non-existent” agency received N1,302,978,000 under budget code 0111062001 — split across personnel, overheads and capital expenditure. He called for scrutiny of how the funds were approved and whether any had been disbursed.
But Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin shut it down, citing President Tinubu’s directive for the ICPC to investigate within 30 days. The probe will examine alleged forged documents and false claims by DG Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew.
