Singer Portable has sparked widespread outrage after releasing a viral video threatening Nigerians with “civil war” and divine retribution if they do not vote for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has drawn sharp criticism after releasing a viral video on Sunday in which he threatened that the nation would face a conflict similar to an “Iran and America war” if President Bola Tinubu is not re-elected in 2027. In the recording, the artist framed the upcoming election as a mandate for ethnic solidarity, stating, “It is Yoruba for second term.
Any Yoruba who refuses to follow Tinubu will perish, will be killed by thunder.” While Portable attempted to court his followers by promising to provide basic commodities like oil and noodles, his rhetoric shifted to direct intimidation as he warned, “If you don’t want war in Nigeria, follow Tinubu.” The Ogun State Police Command has reportedly begun assessing the footage, with spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi confirming to news outlets, “I’m accessing what you sent to me,” as authorities weigh a potential response to the inflammatory remarks.
