UK court convicts Nigerian-born Emmanuel Popoola of murder over snapchat gang dispute

A UK court has convicted Nigerian-born Emmanuel Popoola and Tayvon Etefia, both 18, of murdering teenager Keanu Harker in a gang-related shooting in Enfield, north London, triggered by a Snapchat argument.

The Central Criminal Court on Monday found both teenagers guilty of murder and possessing a self-loading pistol with intent to endanger life, Gazette NGR reports.

The killing stemmed from a rivalry between two Enfield gangs, the 3×3 gang and the Get Money Gang, over a Snapchat comment implying Popoola could not afford mobile data.

The defendants shot Harker as he cycled before fleeing. Popoola attempted to escape via a one-way Eurostar to Paris with help from his girlfriend, Anais King, but French police arrested him after detectives tracked him through her movements. Etefia was arrested on his own Eurostar train two minutes before departure.

Three accomplices were also convicted of perverting the course of justice. Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday. “Too many children are losing their lives, and too many families are being left to suffer unimaginable heartbreak,” a relative of the victim said.
