Tinubu vows to modernise military with technology to combat terrorism and banditry

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to deploy emerging technologies and intelligence-driven operations to combat terrorism, banditry and other security threats facing Nigeria.

Tinubu made the commitment on Monday at the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and African Land Forces Forum in Port Harcourt, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Gazette NGR reports.

The president said his administration was driving military modernisation through investment in modern hardware and capacity building for personnel. He also highlighted the revitalisation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, as key to strengthening military capability and reducing dependence on foreign arms.

“My administration is firmly committed to countering contemporary threats through the adoption of emerging technologies and the building of capacity across all battle spaces,” Tinubu said. He praised the armed forces for their sacrifices and assured families of fallen soldiers their contributions would not be forgotten.
