‘Only 14 people voted for me’ — Cubana Chief Priest laments trusting elders after APC primary defeat

Celebrity businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has expressed disappointment over misplaced trust in community elders following his defeat in the APC primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State

Celebrity businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to his defeat in the All Burgers Congress (APC) primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State. The prominent nightlife promoter, who also serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, had sought the ruling party’s ticket to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reacting to the outcome of the party internal election in a viral video, Cubana Chief Priest maintained that he had no regrets about throwing his hat into the political ring, but expressed profound disappointment over what he described as misplaced trust in community leaders.

The socialite, who reportedly secured only 14 votes during the primary exercise, alleged that the local leaders failed to deliver on their promises despite receiving financial commitments from his campaign. Speaking on the outcome, Cubana Chief Priest said, “I’m a hustler, and I didn’t regret trying to contest for a position. My only regret was trusting the elders in the community. I know how much I gave them, but only 14 people voted for me in the primary.” The businessman had announced his political ambition earlier this year, strongly advocating for what he described as cleaner and issue-based political participation driven primarily by young Nigerians.

Following the declaration of the election results, a wave of mixed reactions trailed the outcome across various social media platforms, with some users mocking the businessman and suggesting he may have heavily underestimated the intricate dynamics of Nigerian grassroots politics. However, Delta State political aide Ossai Ovie Success defended the celebrity entrepreneur against the online backlash, urging Nigerians to respect his courage. Writing on Facebook, Success stated, “Why are people mocking Cubana Chief Priest? Not nice… it’s ok to try and try again,” before adding, “He lost an election and so what? I am disappointed.”
