Oko Poly denies student deaths in hostel building collapse

Oko Polytechnic management has denied that any student died or was trapped in a collapsed hostel building, saying the privately owned lodge housed both students and non-students.

The management of Oko Polytechnic says no student died or was trapped in the collapsed building, Vanguard reports.

PRO Dr. Oguegbu Celestine Udoka said the affected lodge in Amaokpala was privately owned and housed both students and non-students, adding that the incident occurred after exams, when many students had already left for the break.

Rector Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie visited the site alongside the SUG president and state commissioners for Works and Health to monitor rescue efforts. Several occupants have been rescued and hospitalised, while rescue workers continue searching for two people believed trapped, whom the institution insists are not its students.
