The NSIB says the private jet that landed on an Asaba construction road on June 10 had aborted its first approach before mistakenly touching down on the wrong surface during a second attempt.
NSIB: Jet Landed on Asaba Road After Failed First Approach
Nigeria’s air safety bureau has shed light on the bizarre Asaba road landing. In a preliminary report, the NSIB said the Bombardier Challenger 601-3A, operated by VMO Aero Limited, aborted its first landing attempt before repositioning for a second approach the crew believed was correctly aligned with the runway, Punch reports.
Instead, it landed on a nearby road under construction. All seven occupants — four crew, three passengers — were unhurt, and the jet later returned to Lagos with damage to its left nose-wheel. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo earlier ruled out mechanical failure, noting the matter is now before the DSS as a security concern. (Source: Punch Newspapers)
