Lakurawa terrorists kill two Customs officers in Kebbi ambush, CG reacts

Two Nigeria Customs Service officers were killed on Wednesday during a daylight confrontation with Lakurawa terrorists at security checkpoints in Kebbi State.

Two operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) were killed on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, during a violent confrontation with suspected “Lakurawa” terrorists in the Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, confirmed the incident during the fourth biennial international conference at the University of Ilorin, identifying the slain officers as Assistant Superintendent of Customs Bamigboye and Deputy Superintendent of Customs Dom. The attackers reportedly invaded two security checkpoints in broad daylight, marking a significant escalation in hostilities within the border region.

Describing the loss as “deeply painful,” Adeniyi emphasized that the Nigeria Customs Service continues to operate on the frontlines of national security alongside the military. While addressing the conference, he remarked: “This morning, two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service paid the supreme sacrifice while warding off threats from Lakurawa terrorists in Kebbi. Apart from the military, the Nigeria Customs Service remains the last shield in several of these border communities.”

The Customs chief assured the public that the service would not be deterred by the tragic event, stating that the deaths of the officers would only strengthen their resolve to dismantle criminal networks. Despite the growing threat posed by the Lakurawa group in the Northwest, Adeniyi maintained that the NCS remains committed to its role as a primary defensive barrier for Nigeria’s border communities against banditry and terrorism.
