Kidnapped Lagos Woman regains freedom after $17,500 ransom payment

A Lagos woman abducted from her home in Ijedodo has been released after her family reportedly paid a $17,500 ransom.

Mrs. Olanike Ogundare, abducted from her residence in Ijedodo, Lagos State, has regained freedom after her family reportedly paid a $17,500 ransom to her captors.

A family source confirmed on Saturday that Ogundare was released after days in captivity following her abduction by armed kidnappers who reportedly stormed her home in the Oke Agaye area around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The attackers were said to have overpowered a security guard before whisking her away, prompting intervention efforts involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and community stakeholders, including Gani Adams. Sources had earlier said the abductors demanded ₦60 million before reportedly converting the ransom request to United States dollars.

The kidnappers were said to have contacted the family through the victim’s phone, with one Mr. Dapo Adeola reportedly acting as an intermediary in negotiations. Sources also said ₦5 million had earlier been transferred by the victim’s husband as part of efforts to secure her release. Her freedom brings relief to relatives and residents after days of anxiety over the high-profile abduction.
