Pritzker condemned Trump’s planned Chicago immigration crackdown as an “invasion,” vowing legal challenges if National Guard troops are involved.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker warned Sunday that President Trump is secretly planning an “invasion” of Chicago through a federal immigration crackdown.
“It’s clear that, in secret, they’re planning this. Well, it’s an invasion with U.S. troops, if they, in fact, do that,” Mr. Pritzker said on CBS’ Face the Nation.
The Trump administration is preparing to send federal officers — led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection — for a 30-day operation in Chicago. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the plan but said it will not include National Guard troops.
Mr. Pritzker, a possible 2028 Democratic presidential contender, said any attempt to deploy the Guard would be “illegal” and challenged in court. He described the crackdown as “anti-American” and dangerous to law-abiding immigrants.
The Department of Homeland Security reported more than 5,000 migrant arrests since a similar Los Angeles operation began in June.
