Governor’s son company got my land after my N70m investment was destroyed, I got N1.2m compensation – Bauchi man cries out

A Bauchi shop owner has alleged gross injustice after his properties, worth an estimated ₦70 million, were demolished and compensated with only ₦1.2 million, while claiming the land was subsequently allocated to a firm linked to the Governor’s son.

A prominent shop owner in Bauchi State, Buhari Hashim PZ, has raised an alarm over the demolition of his properties in the Unguwar Kurmi area near the Central Market, alleging a lack of transparency and gross injustice. Hashim revealed that he owned three shops purchased years ago for ₦16 million—properties he says had appreciated to over ₦30 million before the state government intervened. Despite the current estimated market value of the shops exceeding ₦70 million, Hashim claimed he was paid a mere ₦1.2 million in compensation following the demolition, an amount he described as “grossly unfair and far below the real value” of his investment.

The controversy deepened as Hashim alleged that the land, seized under the guise of public interest, has been handed over to a private firm, Gryn Bricks & Tech Limited. He further claimed that the company is linked to Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed, the son of the Bauchi State Governor, and noted that private construction activities are already well underway at the site. This revelation has sparked significant concern among local residents and traders regarding the legality of the land’s reallocation and whether due process was bypassed to benefit politically connected individuals at the expense of local entrepreneurs.

The emotional and financial toll of the demolition has reportedly been catastrophic for the business community. Hashim alleged that the shock of losing their livelihoods and receiving inadequate compensation has led to the deaths of several affected traders. Calling for an immediate intervention by relevant authorities and the public, he demanded a comprehensive review of the compensation process and full accountability regarding the land’s new ownership. The situation has created a tense atmosphere in the Central Market area, with traders questioning the fairness and transparency of the state government’s urban renewal policies.
