God made me Nigeria’s president

President Bola Tinubu has said his emergence as Nigeria’s leader was part of a divine plan while reaffirming his commitment to democratic governance and electoral reforms.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that his emergence as Nigeria’s president was part of a divine plan while reaffirming his commitment to good governance, the rule of law and the protection of democratic values. Tinubu made the remark during an interfaith iftar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he hosted members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and leaders of the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

According to a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the president emphasised the need to strengthen electoral institutions, processes and systems across political parties in Nigeria. Tinubu also advocated the adoption of direct primaries, saying the method would enable party members to play a more active role in selecting candidates for various political offices

Describing himself as a committed democrat, Tinubu said he remained dedicated to Nigeria’s unity and the rule of law. “Some of us had been bruised struggling for it. We were detained, we protested, we had street demonstrations, we went into exile and all of that. We formed National Democratic Coalition. I followed the leadership destiny that God has chosen for me. There’s no doubt about it.”
