A prosecution witness in the trial of former Yahaya Bello has told the Federal Capital Territory High Court that $760,910.84 was allegedly paid as advance school fees for Bello’s children at the American International School Abuja. The witness, Nicholas Okehone, an internal auditor with the school and Prosecution Witness 14 (PW14), gave the testimony on Thursday before Justice Maryanne Anineh in Maitama, Abuja.
Bello is standing trial alongside Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu on a 16-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving an alleged ₦110.4 billion. While being led in evidence by prosecution counsel Kemi Pinheiro, Okehone confirmed that the former governor had four children enrolled at the school.
“Yes, I know him as a parent. He has children in my institution. He has four children at the American International School, Abuja,” the witness told the court. Asked to recall their names, he mentioned Zahra Fatima and Na’ima, adding that Nana Fatima Bello and Farid Bello were also among the children enrolled. Okehone also stated that Zayyan Ali Bello, the son of Ali Bello, a nephew of the former governor, was among those whose fees were covered by the payments, while confirming documents including admission letters, payment records from banks in the United States, email correspondence, school receipts and account statements from Zenith Bank and TD Bank.
