James Yohanna, one of three survivors of an attack on Kum village in Riyom LGA, Plateau State, has narrated how Fulani terrorists massacred nine members of his family after demanding the whereabouts of the household’s “father.”
A survivor of last Saturday’s attack on Kum village in the Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, where Fulani terrorists massacred nine members of one family, has narrated his ordeal, which he described as horrific and dreadful.
Daily Post reported that the victim, Mr James Yohanna, one of only three people who survived the attack, told journalists on Friday that the assailants targeted his household, killing his wife, son, his four-year-old daughter and his two-month-old granddaughter.
Yohanna said the attackers, who spoke Fulfulde, deliberately targeted his household because he is related to the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) for Barkin Ladi LGA, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo.
He said the terrorists demanded the whereabouts of the “father” of the family before opening fire.
Recounting the attack, Yohanna said he heard dogs barking around 11:30 p.m., followed by the sound of boots and gunfire at his brother’s door. His brother, shot in the arm and leg while fleeing, managed to hide.
About 30 minutes later, gunmen broke into his son’s room. When his son failed to answer their demand for the “father of the house,” they shot him, his wife, and their two-month-old baby.
Yohanna said he threw his six-year-old daughter through a window and fled into the bush as an attacker fired at him. After losing his pursuer, he attempted to crawl back but heard automatic gunfire coming from the room where his daughters were sleeping.
He said one of his daughters, terrified and screaming, was shot by an attacker as the gunmen marched out of the house.
By the time soldiers arrived and Yohanna made it back to the house, his wife, son, his son’s wife and baby, and his daughters lay dead.
