Former NFA chairman Ibrahim Galadima dies at 78

Ibrahim Galadima, the former chairman of the Nigerian Football Association and a revered traditional leader, has died in Kano at the age of 78.

Ibrahim Galadima, the former chairman of the defunct Nigerian Football Association (NFA) and the Galadiman Fagge, passed away on Saturday at a hospital in Kano metropolis. He was 78 years old. His younger brother, Alhaji Abba Galadima, confirmed the passing in a statement, describing the loss as painful and noting that his brother “passed away on Saturday at a hospital in Kano metropolis.” The late administrator was widely recognized for a life spent in dedicated public service and for his influential role in the growth of football administration across the country.

Beyond his national impact on sports, Galadima held several high-profile roles in his home state, including serving as the commissioner of works and the chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission. He was a prominent figure in traditional leadership as the Galadiman Fagge, where he was credited with fostering community cohesion and enhancing local governance. Respected as a disciplined elder statesman, his brother remarked that Galadima “devoted his life to public service, community leadership and the growth of football administration in Nigeria.”

Funeral rites for the late administrator are scheduled to take place on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Fagge Juma’at Mosque in Kano State.
