While investigators search for answers, a family in Kaduna is preparing to say goodbye.
The family of Mary Habila — the 26-year-old physiotherapist found dead under deeply controversial circumstances at the Uburu, Ebonyi State residence of Works Minister David Umahi — has announced that her funeral service will hold on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Deeper Life Bible Church in Nok, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to the funeral announcement, Mary Habila — popularly known as Mara — was born on September 18, 2000, and died on June 27, 2026, aged 26.
As reported exclusively by SaharaReporters, Habila was found without clothing when her body was removed from the minister’s quarters — a detail that has fuelled intense public outrage and demands for a transparent, independent investigation into how a young healthcare professional came to die inside a government minister’s residence.
Police investigators are examining the full sequence of events at the Uburu residence, including allegations that Minister Umahi departed his country home shortly after the incident while aides arranged for an ambulance. Investigators are working to establish a precise timeline — who was present, what actions were taken and when emergency services were contacted.
“Investigators are seeking to establish the actual timeline, including who was present at the residence, what actions were taken after Habila was discovered, and when emergency medical assistance was requested,” a top source told SaharaReporters.
Umahi has denied wrongdoing, claimed Habila was a physiotherapist seconded from the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, and said he personally recommended an autopsy. He has also threatened legal action against those he accuses of publishing false information — though he has not addressed every allegation circulating about events at his residence.
Police have confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted as a critical component of the ongoing investigation.
