Reps Demand Breakdown Of ₦34tn Customs Waivers

The House of Representatives Committee on Finance has directed the Nigeria Customs Service to provide a comprehensive breakdown of about ₦34 trillion in import duty waivers granted in 2025, including beneficiaries and the legal basis for approvals.

Committee Chairman James Faleke said lawmakers were not against waivers but demanded transparency, while also querying inconsistencies in Customs’ revenue reporting despite the agency surpassing its targets. Customs clarified that waivers are approved by the Finance Ministry, not the service itself.

The committee also queried the Corporate Affairs Commission over unremitted funds and unsubmitted audited financial statements since 2019.
