EFCC has arrested Energy Commission DG Mustapha Abdullahi over alleged N500bn fraud following corruption allegations linked to contract awards.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested Mustapha Abdullahi, director-general of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, over alleged money laundering involving more than N500 billion.
According to Sahara Reporters, Abdullahi was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday and is currently in EFCC custody for further investigation.
The arrest follows a petition by the Network Against Corruption and Drug Trafficking, which accused the DG of a “well-coordinated and brazen scheme” involving solar streetlight contracts allegedly awarded to companies linked to the same individuals.
The group also alleged violations of procurement laws, describing the actions as a breach of public trust.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale did not respond to requests for comment at the time of filing this report.
