Desmond Elliot withdraws from APC primary

Lagos lawmaker and actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the APC primary for the Surulere 1 constituency, alleging that his supporters were intimidated and barred from entering the polling venue.

Lagos State lawmaker and actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Surulere 1 constituency in the House of Assembly, citing intimidation of his supporters.

Elliot announced his withdrawal on Wednesday at the Paddington mini stadium on Western Avenue, where the primary was taking place, alleging that his supporters were repeatedly barred from entering the polling venue.

He said, “In all zones, they’ve been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward. If you go outside, those are my people outside.”

Elliot explained that his decision was to prevent a breakdown of law and order, adding, “No” political ambition was worth the loss of lives. His supporters staged a peaceful protest before leaving the venue alongside him.
