The Presidency has dismissed Peter Obi’s claims that the Federal Government is targeting him and that he may not survive to contest the 2027 election, calling the allegations false and fabricated.
The Presidency has fired back at Peter Obi, rejecting the NDC presidential candidate’s claim that he’s being systematically targeted by the Federal Government — and that he might not even live to see the 2027 election.
According to Daily Trust, Obi made the explosive remarks during an interview on “With Chude,” hosted by Chude Jideonwo, a clip of which was shared on the host’s X account Wednesday. Speaking on his political future, the former Anambra governor said the pressure he’s faced has grown so intense he couldn’t guarantee his own survival.
“Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive,” Obi said, adding that the government was “deliberately” frustrating everything he does for a living.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, wasted no time responding, branding Obi a “pathological and serial liar” who habitually blames the government for his personal troubles. Onanuga dismissed Obi’s claims — including one involving an alleged airport vehicle incident and fears over his 2027 safety — as baseless and lacking evidence.
“His claim that he may not be alive for the January 2027 election… is nothing more than a fabricated narrative,” Onanuga said, accusing Obi of seeking sympathy while deflecting from his own credibility issues and the struggles of his political movement.
Onanuga also pushed back on suggestions the government was targeting Fidelity Bank, where Obi holds a substantial interest, insisting the bank continues to thrive under the administration’s economic reforms.
He maintained that President Bola Tinubu’s government remains focused on economic reforms and has “neither the time nor the inclination” to be distracted by Obi’s candidacy or what he described as unverifiable statements.
