Dangote freed Nigeria from ‘Economic Slavery,’ Otedola says

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has praised Aliko Dangote’s industrial projects as a historic turning 2007 point, declaring that the refinery and fertiliser plants have freed Nigeria and Africa from “economic slavery.”

Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola has described Aliko Dangote’s industrial ventures as a watershed moment in Nigeria’s economic history, crediting the businessman with transforming the country’s industrial landscape.

Otedola made the remarks during a management tour of the Dangote refinery in Lagos on Wednesday. “What you’ve done is you’ve delivered us from economic slavery in Africa,” he told Dangote.

The First HoldCo chairman described the refinery, fertiliser plant and Eko Atlantic project as “wonders of the world,” adding: “In Nigeria today, we should be watching CNN and saying the largest refinery in the world is in Nigeria.”

Otedola also alleged that “a team of visionless people” and inconsistent government policies sabotaged an earlier 2007 attempt by both men to acquire Nigeria’s state-owned refineries, where he held a 20 per cent stake.
