The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will only recognize candidates submitted by the Senator David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This follows a Supreme Court judgment affirming Mark’s leadership. The ADC has nominated candidates for 471 positions for the 2027 general election.
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna stated that the Mark-led faction received access to the nomination portal, while the rival faction has no legal standing to submit candidates. The ADC is calling for the investigation and prosecution of its factional leader, Nafiu Gombe, for falsely claiming to have uploaded candidates.
