Senate distances itself from Kyari arrest warrant over missing N210trn

The Senate has distanced itself from reports that it issued a warrant for the arrest of former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, over alleged missing N210 trillion linked to audit queries.

According to Vanguard, the upper chamber clarified that the directive came from the Senate Committee on Public Accounts and not from the Senate as a whole. The clarification follows widespread reports suggesting the Senate had ordered Kyari’s arrest after he failed to appear before the committee.

The committee is investigating multiple audit queries concerning the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited between 2017 and 2023.

The development comes barely a day after heated exchanges during the committee’s proceedings, with some lawmakers demanding tougher action against Kyari.

The Senate’s clarification appears aimed at separating the institution’s official position from actions taken at the committee level as scrutiny of the audit issues continues, Vanguard reported. :::
