Rotimi Amaechi says he is confident of clinching the ADC presidential ticket ahead of Atiku Abubakar, arguing that electability, not primary victories, will determine the 2027 race.
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence in securing the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking on Trust TV on Monday, Amaechi said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may no longer be electorally viable despite repeatedly winning party primaries.
“I listened when the former vice president said he never failed a primary before. I hope this will be the first time he will fail primary,” Amaechi said.
“The issue is that at all times that you have passed primary, you have not won an election. So it’s about electability,” he added.
Amaechi argued that his candidacy offered a fresh option because he had never contested a presidential election. He, however, said both Atiku and Peter Obi would govern better than President Bola Tinubu.
He also criticised Tinubu over alleged ethnic bias and stressed the need for national unity, inclusion and improved security ahead of the ADC primary scheduled for May 25, 2026.
