At least 10 civilians were killed when Malian army drones struck a group of villagers preparing for a traditional mass wedding near San on Sunday.
At least 10 civilians were killed when Malian military drones struck villagers preparing for a traditional mass wedding in the Tene area near San, according to Peoples Gazette.
“Ten of our children were killed during the strikes,” a resident anonymously told AFP. “What was supposed to be a moment of joy in the village turned into immense sorrow.”
According to Peoples Gazette, a security source said the drones targeted “a procession of motorbikes following one another,” adding that this “certainly” drew military attention.
“A wedding was about to take place when the drones killed at least 10 civilians. It is truly a time of mourning,” a local official told AFP.
The strikes follow escalating conflict in Mali after Al-Qaeda-linked JNIM militants attacked military bases in April. The Malian military confirmed Sunday operations but did not address civilian casualties.
