Terrorists behead kidnapped Oyo mathematics teacher

Terrorists have beheaded Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the killing and disclosed that multiple security operatives died from planted explosives during rescue attempts.

The security crisis in Oyo State took a gruesome turn following the brutal execution of Michael Oyedokun, one of the seven teachers recently abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. A graphic video released on Sunday, May 17, 2026, by a local terrorist syndicate known as the MetroBandits, captured the beheading of the mathematics teacher and circulated widely across social media, sparking nationwide outrage. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officially confirmed the killing on Monday, extending deep condolences to the bereaved family while assuring the public that the government is utilizing both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to secure the safe release of the remaining educators still held in the forest.

The Governor also revealed that the state’s counter-terrorism operations have met with heavy resistance, resulting in casualties among a joint rescue team comprising the Nigerian military, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes. According to Makinde, the frontline operatives tragically lost their lives after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) deliberately planted by the terrorists along their retreat routes. While noting that the surviving injured personnel are currently responding positively to medical treatment, the Governor confirmed that law enforcement has made significant breakthroughs by arresting six suspects directly linked to the coordinated mass school kidnapping.

In his address to the state, Governor Makinde appealed for calm, patience, and resilience from the victims’ relatives and community leaders, reiterating that the state government will push its resources to the absolute limit to crush the syndicate. He emphasized the complexity of the ongoing tactical operations while confirming the exact scale of the tragedy. “So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly. What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. And, unfortunately, we got a video this morning that one of the teachers, I understand, the mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists,” the Governor stated, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
