Amnesty raises alarm over fresh abduction of schoolchildren in Borno, Oyo

Amnesty International warns 82 children were abducted in Borno and Oyo, urging urgent government action.

Amnesty International has raised alarm over the abduction of dozens of schoolchildren in Borno and Oyo states, according to Daily Post.
In a statement on Sunday, the group said at least 82 children were kidnapped between May 13 and 15 during separate attacks. It noted that 42 pupils were abducted in Askira Uba and Chibok areas of Borno, while 40 others were taken from communities in Oriire LGA of Oyo State.

“The Nigerian authorities must take immediate and decisive action to investigate these incidents, rescue the victims safely, and take more concrete prevention measures to stop endless targeting of schools and children,” Amnesty said.
The organisation warned that some victims were as young as two, adding that repeated attacks are forcing many children to abandon education and worsening Nigeria’s security crisis.
