Nigeria’s National Pension Commission has launched PenCare, a free healthcare scheme targeting retirees aged 60 and above earning ₦70,000 or less monthly, with registration open for up to 30,000 beneficiaries on a first-come, first-served basis.
The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has launched the pilot phase of PenCare, a free healthcare initiative aimed at easing the medical burden on Nigeria’s low-income retirees.
Eligible pensioners must be at least 60 years old and receive a monthly pension of ₦70,000 or less from a Pension Fund Administrator. Registration, open on a first-come, first-served basis, covers up to 30,000 retirees and can be accessed through PenCom’s official website or participating PFA platforms.
PenCom described the initiative as a Corporate Social Responsibility project dedicated to preserving the dignity and wellbeing of older citizens, coming at a time when inflation and rising medical costs are severely eroding retirees’ purchasing power.
PenCom Director General Omolola Oloworaran recently inaugurated a Board of Trustees for the scheme, chaired by Muhammed Ahmad. Eligible pensioners are urged to register early.
