An Ibadan court has arraigned a travel agent accused of defrauding a pilgrim of N10.6 million in a failed Hajj visa deal.
A 36-year-old travel agent, Tijani Abdulroqeeb, was on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over alleged N10.6 million visa fraud.
The defendant is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, stealing and breach of peace but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor ASP Sikiru Ibrahim told the court that Abdulroqeeb allegedly obtained N10.6 million from a complainant, Taofeek Abdullah, to facilitate Mecca visas for 2026 pilgrims.
Mr Ibrahim alleged that the defendant failed to secure the visas and diverted the funds for personal use. He added that the defendant refused to refund the money, causing tension.
Magistrate M. Mudashiru granted bail of N5 million with two sureties and adjourned the case until May 19 for mention.
