‘Believe this, believe anything’ — Presidency fires back at Obi’s one-term pledge

The Presidency has dismissed Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one presidential term as unreliable, citing his history of abandoned political loyalties.

The Presidency has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his vow to serve only one term if elected president, according to Punch.

Obi had declared in a viral interview clip that he would not remain in office beyond four years “even with a gun to my head.”

Responding on X, Presidential Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga rejected the pledge outright, saying: “If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything.”

Onanuga pointed to Obi’s defection from APGA to PDP and subsequent party changes as evidence of broken commitments, adding: “Peter Obi’s pledges have always been short-lived — a political rolling stone.”

“By his own actions, Peter Obi has shown that his word cannot be trusted. His promises are as fleeting as his political allegiances,” Onanuga stated.

Obi is currently a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
