Trump claims Iran agrees to drop nuclear ambitions, signals deal talks

U.S. President Donald Trump says Iran has agreed to forgo nuclear weapons and is eager for a deal, while hinting at undisclosed incentives linked to ongoing talks.

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has agreed to “never have a nuclear weapon,” as he indicated that Tehran is keen to reach a deal with Washington. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said several top officials, including envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance, are involved in the negotiations.

“We have a number of people doing it,” Trump said. “And the other side, I can tell you, they’d like to make a deal.” He added: “I don’t want to say in advance, but they’ve [Iran] agreed they will never have a nuclear weapon. They’ve agreed to that.” The president also asserted that recent strikes on Iran had resulted in a “regime change,” although he did not provide further details.

Addressing questions on trust, Trump said he does not trust anyone but pointed to what he described as a significant “gift” from the Iranian side as a sign of progress. “They gave us a present, and the present arrived today,” he said. “It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. And I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.” He added that the gesture was “oil- and gas-related,” noting, “It was a very nice thing they did. But what it showed me is that we’re dealing with the right people.”
