An IED explosion in Kwara State’s Woro community has left at least one person dead, injured others, and heightened security fears in the area.
An explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) has struck Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least one person and leaving others injured. The blast occurred on Monday morning when a vehicle reportedly drove over the device along a road near the community.
According to government officials, the male victim died instantly, while a woman and her child in the vehicle were affected, with the woman currently receiving treatment. Local authorities say casualty figures remain uncertain, as initial reports suggest more victims may have been involved in the incident.
Security sources believe the device may have been planted by suspected insurgents, raising fresh concerns in the area which has experienced previous attacks. Residents have expressed fear following the incident and are calling on authorities to strengthen security and prevent further violence.
