FG declares Thursday, Friday public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government has declared March 19 and 20, 2026, as public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr and urged Nigerians to promote unity and peaceful coexistence.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, signalling the end of the Ramadan fast.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month and encouraged them to uphold the values of peace, love and sacrifice.

The government also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national unity and prosperity, while calling on citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged.
