Apple has updated its 2026 support list, warning that several older iPhones are now obsolete or vintage and urging users to upgrade as unsupported devices face growing security risks.
Apple Inc. has updated its list of obsolete and vintage devices, warning iPhone users that several older models will lose hardware repairs and software security updates in 2026, increasing risks of cyberattacks, malware and data breaches. Newly classified obsolete devices include older models such as the iPhone 3G, iPhone 4 series, iPhone 5 lineup, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, iPhone 6s (32GB) and the first-generation iPhone SE, while models like the iPhone X, iPhone XS series and iPhone 11 Pro Max were added to the vintage category with limited support remaining. The company said its latest operating system, iOS 26, is available only on newer devices including the iPhone 11 series and iPhone 12 lineup and later, advising users to check their device status and consider upgrading, as cybersecurity experts warn that unsupported phones become easier targets once vulnerabilities are discovered.
