The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has awarded N30 million in damages to former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore over his October 2025 declaration as “wanted” by the Nigeria Police Force. Justice Musa Kaakaki held that the action by CP Moshood Jimoh was illegal and violated Sowore’s fundamental rights, describing it as an abuse of authority.
Reacting, Sowore said the ruling was “a resounding blow” to police impunity, adding that the court’s message was clear: “abuse of power has consequences.” He praised his counsel, Barrister Tope Temokun, for his representation. The controversial declaration had sparked outrage among rights groups, with critics describing it as politically motivated.
