The Niger State Government has earmarked N4.3 billion in its 2026 budget for projects previously funded in 2025, with most allocations domiciled in the office of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
The Niger State government is set to spend N4.3 billion on projects it already accounted for in 2025 in its budget for the 2026 fiscal year, FIJ has found. FIJ spotted on Tuesday that most of these projects are listed under the office of Mohammed Umar Bago, the executive governor. In the approved appropriation bill, the state government noted that it will dedicate N1 billion to construct accommodation for development partners, a project that received N520 million in funding the previous year.
Similarly, the government spent N180 million to renovate the Kaduna Liaison Office in 2025, while the same project is now set to receive N400 million in the new fiscal year. Furthermore, Bago’s office received N1.62 billion (N1,625,581,395.3) in 2025 to provide “28 executive tables and chairs for additional 17 houses behind government house.” FIJ found that the same project has now been allocated N1.5 billion in the 2026 budget.
For the renovation of the administrative block in the Government House in Minna, the state governor allocated N400 million in 2026, despite the project having received N200 million in 2025. Meanwhile, for the purchase of 20 tables and chairs and one 25-seater roundtable for offices in the same Government House, Bago spent N275 million in 2025 and is now set to receive N500 million in 2026.
