Details of several companies registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) are no longer visible on the agency’s artificial intelligence-powered online portal. The redesigned platform, introduced to improve verification, has been plagued by technical issues since launch, limiting users’ ability to access company information despite earlier assurances by the commission.
Findings by FIJ showed that searches for multiple companies returned no results, even when correct registration numbers were supplied. Firms affected include Folingo Engineering Nigeria Ltd., Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, and Hitech Construction Company Ltd., raising concerns about the reliability of the portal.
Alpha-Beta Consulting Ltd.’s registration number reportedly produced details of an unrelated company, while paid searches yielded no results or refunds. Despite this, the CAC urged Nigerians to rely on the portal, stating on December 2: “The Public is hereby advised to always verify the status of any company or business name directly from the CAC portal.”
