A prominent UK Catholic deacon, Nick Donnelly, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. This demand comes after Gumi condemned recent U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto State, arguing that foreign military intervention complicates Nigeria’s security and risks turning the country into a proxy war theatre.
Deacon Donnelly, reacting on social media, accused Gumi of supporting terrorists by referring to them as “our warriors” and protesting strikes against “bestial Islamist terrorists.” He insisted Gumi be tried for crimes against humanity and called on President Bola Tinubu to publicly denounce the cleric or be seen as complicit in his alleged crimes.
