FG confirms U.S. airstrikes part of ongoing anti-terror patnership

The Federal Government has confirmed that recent U.S. military airstrikes against terrorist groups in northwestern Nigeria were conducted under existing international security cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the action was part of coordinated efforts to confront terrorism and protect regional stability, following intelligence sharing with the United States and other allies.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism,” it said.

The statement stressed that the cooperation respects Nigeria’s sovereignty and international law.

Nigeria emphasized that civilian protection remains central to all counter-terrorism operations and condemned extremist attacks on any community. The Ministry added that efforts are ongoing to disrupt terrorist financing and cross-border movements.

Reports indicate the airstrikes followed a directive from U.S. President Donald Trump to target ISIS elements accused of attacking Christian communities.
