The Federal Government has confirmed security and intelligence cooperation with the United States led to recent airstrikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria’s Northwest. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated authorities remain engaged in “structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America,” to counter terrorism and violent extremism.
The collaboration involves intelligence sharing and strategic coordination, resulting in “precision hits on terrorist targets.” The ministry emphasized these efforts respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and international law, guided by the protection of civilian lives and national unity.
The statement followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he directed “a powerful and deadly strike” against ISIS in the region. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth separately noted, “Grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation.”
Nigeria reiterated that terrorist violence against any community is an affront to its values. The government pledged to continue working through established channels with partners to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent cross-border threats.
