The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced 41 properties valued at N212.89 billion to Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice. TheCable reports that the assets include hotels, schools, residential buildings, lands, factories and a printing press located across Kebbi, Kano and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to details obtained by TheCable, properties in Kebbi State account for the largest share, with an estimated value of N162.19 billion. Assets in Kano State are valued at N16.01 billion, while properties in the FCT are estimated at N34.68 billion. The EFCC said the assets are linked to Malami through investigations.
The federal government has also filed a 16-count charge bordering on money laundering against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami. Father and son are accused of committing offences contrary to Sections 15, 18 and 21 of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act. TheCable said it obtained the full list of the properties linked to the former minister.
