Pop superstar Davido has placed a significant bet of $25,000 (approximately N36 million) on Nigeria’s opening match against Tanzania in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The singer shared a snapshot of his betting slip on social media, showing he expects both teams to score, with a potential payout of $96,564 (about N140 million).
This is not the first time the Afrobeats icon has placed a high-stakes bet on the Super Eagles. Prior to Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup play-off match against Gabon, Davido wagered $10,000 (₦15 million) on a Nigerian win and both teams to score, with a potential payout of ₦75.2 million. Unfortunately, Nigeria lost that match.
Nigeria, ranked 38th in the world, will face Tanzania, ranked 112th, on December 23 at the Complex Sportif de Fes in Morocco. Despite the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, they enter the match as favorites, having finished as runners-up in the previous AFCON edition.
With a rich history of success in AFCON, including three titles, Nigeria is expected to perform well. Their undefeated record against Tanzania in competitive fixtures further boosts their chances of victory, making the match one to watch closely.
